The Annealing Process of Glass

Annealing of glass is a process of slowly cooling hot glass after it has been formed, to relieve residual internal stresses introduced during manufacture.

This process makes glass less brittle by heating it to a particular temperature, maintaining it at that temperature for a particular duration, and cooling it slowly to normal temperature at a particular rate.

Annealing of glass is crucial to its strength. Glass that has not been properly annealed retains thermal stresses, which decreases its strength and durability. Improperly annealed glass is prone to shatter or crack when subjected to temperature changes, shock or stress.
