Glass Recycling Saves Energy

Glass makes up a large component of household and industrial waste due to its weight and density. The glass component in municipal waste is usually made up of bottles, broken glassware and other recyclable items.

Glass is made from readily-available domestic materials, such as sand, soda ash and limestone.  Over a ton of natural resources are saved for every ton of glass recycled. Every ton of waste glass recycled into new items saves almost 700 lbs. of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere during the creation of new glass.

Research findings have shown that concrete made with recycled glass aggregates have shown better long term strength and better thermal insulation due to the higher thermal properties of the glass aggregates.

Most glass is 100% recyclable and does not degrade through the recycling process.  Glass can be recycled endlessly without loss in quality or purity, so it can be recycled again and again.
